"All advocates and all levels of government need sound information based on facts obtained from RESEARCH to form successful policies.

Parent groups are recommending student advocates to all 60 school district boards throughout BC and the VIPIRG would provide invaluable support to them.

"I worked for and later was on the board of VIPIRG in the late 80s and early 90s. It was an invaluable part of my education. It also contributed strongly to UVic through its resources and advocacy. At a time when this concept was new and radical, we started and ran a recycling program on campus, educated everyone on what that was, and created a classroom kit so teachers could teach kids about recycling. We also convinced the bookstore to sell recycled paper, the cafeteria to use real cups, etc., and the university to improve facilities for those who biked to school and to create carpooling parking spots. And much more, including critical interfaces between students and the broader community."

"I was on the PIRG board when it became VIPIRG in about 1988. As well as the items mentioned, we did solid work on Victoria's social issues such as for homeless street kids back then. VIPIRG is a valuable resource that is a great asset to the community and has been for over 30 years."
